First "Real" Weekend on Campus

Today is Labor Day and I'm still going to classes. Although it seems extremely strange, I've come to terms with this and I've also realized that there are actually a number of schools that do the same thing. I know that Findlay does at least. While everyone else is sitting around for a day, we get to go to classes and work and one day, we'll get out of school before them so ha. =) The upside of Labor Day weekend is that my boyfriend's family from Dayton comes and I get to see them. It seems like such a weird thing to look forward to but I haven't been able to see them since Thanksgiving. So of course, I went home to spend some time with them and my family also. I love staying on campus on weekends though. There are some students that go home so it makes campus feel a little less crowded and much quieter which suits me well, especially when I have about 5 different chapters I need to read and an essay or two to write.

I ended up missing the first football game of the season, which I'm kind of upset about. But I do plan on going to at least a few of the home games. We'll see about that when the time comes around. I did, however, watch the Ohio State football game while I was attempting to do homework. My family is one of those big, scary, fanatical families. We're that family your parents warned you about. I have always wanted to go to Ohio State since I could walk, it was just wayyy too big for me. I had an Ohio State bedroom until I was about 14 and each of my families have at least one room decorated Ohio State in their homes. So, thankfully my roommate is also an Ohio State fan because we watched it together. They didn't play to my liking but we were still jumping up and down and screaming in front of our tv. People walking by probably thought we were absolutely crazy. That's just normal where I come from. I was always afraid that when I went to another school that people would hate me for still being a die-hard Buckeye fan but I love it here. Everyone is so accepting and no one cares whether you like Ohio State or Michigan (except when they play each other and we have a big party).

I feel as if everyone (mostly) on campus is pretty accepting. Being a private school, we get to talk about religion or lack thereof for some people. We also talk publicly about politics. Today, in my Intro to Social Work class, we started talking about whether you are more left or right and what you thought of the medical reform happening as we speak. I like the way I think and I would hate it if someone persecuted me for my beliefs. I think that's why everyone seems to be so accepting is because we all want to be treated fairly and we want to speak our minds. Thinking back to high school, I wouldn't have had the chance to talk about the things we talk about on campus and for that, I'm extremely thankful. I love college =)
